On March 7, an online discussion was held between the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Vahe Ghazaryan and Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre and Deputy Head of the OSCE Secretariat Tuula Yrjölä. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan and Chief of Staff Armen Mkrtchyan were present during the discussion.
Tuula Yrjölä congratulated Vahe Ghazaryan on the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and his appointment to the position of minister, wishing him efficient work. She highly appreciated the course of reforms adopted by the Government of Armenia. During her address, she highlighted the Ministry of Internal Affairs' ongoing reforms as a crucial part of Armenia's overall reform efforts. She also assured that the OSCE is prepared to extend and enhance its collaboration in this regard.
Expressing gratitude for the congratulations and kind words, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia also conveyed a deep appreciation for the long-standing and productive partnership with the OSCE. Notably, the collaboration has witnessed an upward trajectory, particularly in recent years. During his presentation of the ongoing reforms in the ministry, Vahe Ghazaryan expressed gratitude to the international partners, with a special mention of the OSCE, for their valuable contributions and high-quality expert support. He specifically highlighted the areas of reform where the OSCE has been actively engaged. Ghazaryan expressed his gratitude towards Ruzanna Baghdasaryan, the coordinator of OSCE programs in Armenia, while highlighting the extensive efforts that have been made thus far.
Tuula Yrjölä expressed willingness to continue active support in the necessary directions, stressing that the effectiveness of the reforms is also visible through public surveys, which is very important.
"I want to unconditionally confirm our willingness to successfully complete the reforms and continue cooperation with the OSCE, which will enable us to have a specialized and technically equipped, well-behaved and respectable police force that can withstand modern challenges, which will also ensure the proper implementation of the activities of the newly established Ministry of Internal Affairs," Vahe Ghazaryan said.
Additionally, the discussion covered various topics related to the reforms and other matters of mutual interest. Through constructive dialogue, the participants sought effective solutions to these issues.
