Armed assaults in Alaverdi: crimes solved thanks to the professionalism of local law enforcement officers

17.08.2020 16:19 Banditry

On August 1 and 10, armed assaults were committed in the city of Alaverdi. On the morning of August 1, two men in hats, masks and gloves entered one of the shops on Tumanyan Street in Alaverdi, under threat of a knife they knocked the saleswoman to the ground, sealed her mouth with tape and tried to open the door of a cabinet with gold and silver jewelry. During this time, one of them shot into the ground. After failing to open the door, they fled the scene.
On August 10, two men, again in masks and gloves, entered one of the shops in Alaverdi’s Sanahin-Sarahart quarter, shut the owner's mouth and eyes, threatened and stole gold jewelry, causing damage amounted to several millions AMD. Criminal cases were initiated in connection with those facts.
In order to detect the grave crimes in hot pursuit, employees of Lori Marz Department, Tumanyan division and the territorial Investigation division carried out various operational-search measures and investigative actions. Thanks to effective cooperation, the law enforcement officers who participated in the disclosure of the armed assaults acquired factual data that in both cases the same people entered the store: one of the suspects was identified: 22-year-old young man living in Alaverdi. Soon he was located, detained, first he was arrested as a suspect, then he was charged, arrest was selected as a measure of restraint.
As a result of further measures, law enforcement officers promptly established the identity and whereabouts of the arrested young man's accomplice. The 21-year-old resident of Alaverdi was also found and arrested. As a result of the investigative actions carried out within the framework of the criminal case, the outer clothing of the arrested young man, in which he committed the armed assault, as well as pieces of scorched clothing, were found and seized. The young men had burnt their clothes to hide their tracks. The weapon of the crime - a single-barreled gun - and the stolen gold jewelry were found and seized.
The preliminary investigation of the initiated criminal cases continues.
