Information for our compatriots coming to Armenia from Lebanon

16.09.2020 19:28 Statements and announcements

Recently, there has been an influx of our compatriots from the Diaspora, particularly from Lebanon, to Armenia. Among other departments, Police is also carrying out relevant work in this direction.
The Public Relations and Information Department of Police, in cooperation with the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, has launched a series of notifications. Regular information on the territorial police subdivisions, their locations and contact information are provided.
Our compatriots from the Diaspora can contact the Passport and Visa Department of Police. Here they mainly apply for citizenship or residency status.
The procedure for obtaining RA citizenship is defined by the RA Law on Citizenship and by-laws. Armenians can obtain citizenship through a simplified procedure.
In particular, without living in the RA for the recent 3 years on a legal basis, passing a test on the Constitution, fulfilling the requirements to know the Armenian language.
"Armenians apply for citizenship at the Passport and Visa Department or RA diplomatic missions or consular posts in foreign countries, submitting the following documents: an established form of application, filling out an application form in Armenian, their passport and its notarized translation, 6 color photos, birth certificate and its notarized translation, and if it is in a foreign language, documents certifying the fact of being an Armenian, which are defined by the relevant normative decision, also a receipt for payment of the state fee, which is 1000 AMD. Citizenship applications are submitted in person, except for citizens recognized as incapacitated, in which case the application is submitted through a guardian. The applications are discussed within six months, the issues of citizenship are solved by the decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia, "said Irina Mkrtchyan, Head of the Legal Department of the Passport and Visa Department of Police.
Our compatriots from the Diaspora, particularly from Lebanon, may also have problems with their driver's license in Armenia.
"With the Lebanese national driving licenses issued by the Lebanese authorities, not only our compatriots, but also any citizen has no right to drive in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, as Lebanon did ratify “The 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic," said Samvel Nersisyan, Deputy Head of division at Traffic Police.
In order to drive in Armenia, our compatriots must pass a relevant exam to obtain a driver's license.
"The process of issuing driver's licenses in the Republic of Armenia is regulated by the procedure approved by the relevant decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated 2008. According to which, in order to obtain a driver's license, the citizens must pass a theoretical examination, in case of a positive result of which, also a practical examination. According to the current legal regulations, the theoretical exam can be passed only in Armenian and Russian. In the near future, Arabic, Persian and English languages will be added, "said Samvel Nersisyan, Deputy Head of division of the Traffic Police.
Due to the pandemic, the registration-examination subdivisions of the traffic police work with preliminary online registration. That is, you must first send an application by e-mail and receive the day and time of the exam. The e-mail addresses of the traffic police registration-examination subdivisions can be found on police.am website.
Our compatriots can call 010-37-02-64 to make enquiries about the functions of the Passport and Visa Department, and contact 177 in case of questions related to the functions of the Traffic police.
