Joint workshop on “Domestic violence” in Yerevan

The EU Council Secretariat along with The police of the Republic of Armenia organized a workshop on “Domestic violence” in “Hrazdan” hotel on 14-15 May.
European Council experts Francesco Kerer from Italy and Marivon bin Heng and Stephan Sharpe-nye from France arrived in Yerevan to partake in the workshop. The delegation was presided by manager of the police program of the European Council Laurent Braulio.
The workshop was attended by 35 officers of The police of the Republic of Armenia representing Community policing, as well as Yerevan and provincial subdivisions on Juvenile crime and its prevention.
Deputy head of the RA police Headquarters, head of the Department of international relations, Police Colonel Hovhannes Poghosyan and manager of the police program of the European Council Laurent Braulio made opening statements.
During the two day workshop the Eurpean experts represented the experience of European countries, partly France and Italy, in the sphere of Domestic violence, as well as touched upon their legislations and police activities in the sphere of domestic violence.
Discussions on providing support for domestic violence victims and isolating them were held, the role and functions of police in that sphere were debated.
 Head of the Department on protection of Juveniles' rights and combating domestic violence of the General department of the criminal intelligence of the RA police Nelli Duryan represented the works carried out by the RA police in that sphere and set forth the current issues.
