The OSCE/ODHIR election observation mission delegation at the RA police
On February 27 the RA police chief Vladimir Gasparyan received the Head of the OSCE/ODHIR (Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights) election observation mission, ambassador Haydi Taliavini and the delegation members.
Greeting the guests, Vladimir Gasparyan expressed gratification at the close collaboration. The police chief noted that the police of the Republic of Armenia, taking into account the experience acquired at the elections of the National Assembly and local self-government bodies, have done and are still doing their best to maximum transparently and efficiently work with both observation missions and with parties, organizations and media. Particularly, each alert call is considered, necessary materials are provided as required, via police programs the society is periodically and thoroughly kept informed about the investigations of the election violations, and the Russian and English versions of the materials are represented on the police website.
Haydi Taliavini thanked for the cordial welcome and added that observers are interested in the Police reaction to the post-election developments, too.
Vladimir Gasparyan noted that the police properly perform their functions aimed at ensuring public order and protecting citizens’ rights in the post-election period, too.
The police chief underlined that during the meetings the task of the police is to prevent undesirable incidents within the scope of their statutory powers, which also include making shootings during the meetings that is aimed at preventing instigations and offences, as well as maintaining control over the police officers to properly officiate.
In response to Haydi Taliavini’s question concerning the incident which took place during the meeting held in Artashat Vladimir Gasparyan noted that an official investigation of that case has already been assigned and law is especially strict for the police officer which neglects his duties, because the policeman who doesn’t respect law can’t demand a respect for law from a citizen.
Haydi Taliavini thanked Vladimir Gasparyan for giving exhaustive and thorough explanations to her questions.
During the meeting the parties discussed other issues of mutual interest as well.
